Fire Hose Reels
First, let’s talk about your standard fire hose reel.
These release a powerful stream of water and are often available in most buildings and establishments. Most hoses come with a standard nozzle and up between 36-50 metres of high-durability tubing that can easily be wound and unravelled in case of emergencies.
Proper care of your fire hose reel will have a large impact on the effectiveness of the equipment. Ensuring that it is well looked after can give you peace of mind that it will work correctly when required.
Some simple tips for maintaining your fire hose reel:
- Always depressurise the hose to prevent accidents and wearing
- Make sure to remove any tangles or twists in the tubing
- Completely drain the water
- Ensure your fire hose reel is regularly inspected and tested as per AS 1851
Hose reels are a first attack piece of fire equipment. If you feel the fire is getting out of control remove yourself immediately and call ‘000’.
